The Metropole's 90 seater restaurant,
Veranda, offers uninterrupted views of Long Street. The
seriously romantic interior utilises clean lines, juxtaposed
with contrasting colours. Head chef Roy Thomson describes the
menu as "comfort food with a twist", adding "I love peasant
food from around the world - add a bit of glamour and you have
a meal fit for a king or queen." The menu is well balanced,
hearty and unpretentious and consists of signature dishes such
as smoked salmon trout with crème fraiche and caviar, duck
bobotie, guinea fowl pie and beer battered hake and chips. |

leather chairs, dark
wood panels and an exceptionally comfortable Versace fabric covered
sofa. Comic wire bent figurines appear where
heavy stuffed animal heads once hung. The reddish illumination and
modern yet warm styling oozes a sexy, intimate
and decadent atmosphere without being overly pretentious.
In the short time since it's re-opening, the Metropole has once again
become the landmark on Cape Town's vibey
Long Street that it once was.
